The IGP - Massage Therapy

The Independent General Practice Private Healthcare Providers of Physiotherapy

Massage is commonly used by our physiotherapists to relieve pain, reduce swelling reduce muscle spasm/tension and promote relaxation.

The speed and the pressure used will determine the effect of the massage. To promote a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing the therapist will use a slow medium pressure technique. In contrast, in order to break down scar tissue in an injured muscle, tendon or ligament a much greater pressure is required and this can sometimes be a little uncomfortable – the old saying ‘no pain, no gain’ is sometimes true.
